“A 29-year-old man killed in a shooting in the Queen Street East and Carlaw Avenue area Wednesday night has been identified as Regent Park resident Ceyon Carrington, who went by the nickname “C-Sick,” CBC News has learned.

Police were called to the area just before 10 p.m. Wednesday about multiple reports that a man had been shot.

“It sounded like five to seven shots and it was the unmistakable sound of gunfire,” said a man who lives nearby who did not want to be named.

Friends of Carrington posted his photo online identifying him as the victim on social media Thursday. They say Carrington loved rap music and had just left a recording studio Wednesday night when he was shot.

Carrington was one two people charged in the Garden Restaurant attack in November 2014 that killed a 31-year-old Mississauga man and left two others injured. The charges against Carrington were later stayed.

Carrington’s lawyer, Monte MacGregor, also confirmed Thursday that it was his client who was shot and killed Wednesday night.

“We heard a car take off and somebody yelled 9-11,” said one area resident

It was definitely shocking,” he said. “It took a moment to kind of kick in what was happening because it was a lot like a movie.”

The victim was taken to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, where he succumbed to his injuries. Homicide investigators took over the case late Wednesday night.

An autopsy was expected to be done Thursday afternoon, but no further details are available on the results at this time.

Toronto police are saying very little publicly about the shooting but continue to canvas residents in the area as their investigation continues. Forensic unit investigators remained in the area Thursday.”
