Toronto emcee Shakill gives us a look into his world with Shakill Vol 1.
The work is a five track EP brimming with emotional inspiration. The style of sound present in the work would be categorized into the Trap Genre, yet it is slightly different from the usual Trap track. Instead of glorifying the lifestyle, Shakill seems to advise against it, or at least preach about the hardships that come with it. Aside from the track Heard Me, most of the tracks seem to come from an area of desire to send an insightful message about life in the 6ix. Below is a full tracklist of the EP content.
The audio production is great throughout the EP. Shakill has an interesting voice as it feels like he hasn’t fully decided on one flow yet, but the emcee delivers strong regardless. At times some of the tracks can feel overproduced, but that comes with any trap beat as they usually have almost too much going on by standard. The variety in the sample work is great with everything from chimes to echoes to piano tones making appearances in the framework of the beats. The mids, hi’s and lo’s are all good and no clipping is present, which makes for great beats that meet and exceed most common standards.
At the end of the day, Shakill Vol 1 is a great example of how creative aesthetic and style can change up a genre like trap. If you enjoyed the post, let us know with a comment and like below.
