HMV Canada announced that they’ll be shutting the doors to all 102 Canadian stores on April 30th 2017. Majority of HMV’s head office staff was let go recently and it’s sad to see HMV shut down.
Stores, including their flagship in the heart of downtown Toronto will be selling their inventory at liquidation prices as the shut down is happening so quickly. It’s a mystery as to why the corporation is choosing to close their doors so abruptly. The only logical reason is that online streaming services such has; Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play, Tidal ect are the main cause.
I remember going to HMV as a child to buy merchandise for my favorite TV shows & HipHop albums. I’ve also met some amazing mainstream artists during autograph pop-ups. On April 30th a legend will be put to rest, that legend being HMV and all of our memories.
