This is a project Brampton should be playing down the streets and showing their city some love. Check out the project below
I am proud to present my first EP, Brown Town 1. The name stems from a derogatory term used by the original European settlers to denounce the new wave of Asian immigrants who had chosen to make Brampton, ON their new home. We flipped the term to take the power out of it, transforming it into a label that represents our unique situation and culture. Brampton is a Canadian city of 600 000 residents, of which almost 50% are of South Asian descent.
The project is a blend of personal story, critique on modern culture, and clever rap bars. Laid out over a sound that I was most familiar with growing up, the aim was to craft hard-hitting, boom bap music that isn’t really heard from any Toronto artists, while staying true to my lyricist persona. – Spitty
