Liam Graham | WhatTheHYPE Track Breakdown
Slaine, Bockz Cuddah and Aspect came together to deliver a heavy track with Left In Flames.
The track is just shy of three-and-a-half minutes and has a strong horror-core meets 90’s gangster rap feel. The lyrics are dark and brooding, revolving around a message of defying expectations from judgemental onlookers while keeping an aggressive defense up. Each of the emcees brings a different lyrical flow to the table, providing a good listening experience in regards to horror-core vocal work.
The quality of the beat production is simple and clean, with nice use of sampling and drum kit effects. The haunting piano loop in the background really complements the drum kit for the aforementioned horror-core/gangster rap feel, resulting in a simple, clean and effective beat.
Beats like these may be considered weak for being simple, but at the same time the producers and artists benefit from using a beat that is easy to pull off and can suit multiple flows. When artists go for the more daunting high paced EDM/trap style beats or any kind of beat demanding meticulous attention, they run the risk of over-saturating their beat to the point where you can’t appreciate the vocal work or audio production. It also brings in that much more audio work to fine tune so the risk of clipping in certain areas of the beat also increases if the producer doesn’t take that meticulous action of double checking every little aspect of the intricate beat they wish to craft.
