Liam Graham | WhatTheHYPE Album-Review

Khingz displays variety, substance, and talent in his latest album, Ouroboros.

A 12-track long album, Ouroboros is a great blend of different genres and stories packed together. The album is supposed to be a return to the Khingz’s roots. Originally from Seattle, Khingz has been back-and-forth between his American home-city and Vancouver, as he is building a family life in Canada’s Van-city. Hip-hop emcee Sutts Master is also featured on many of the tracks.

Produced by PhreeWill, the audio quality in the various instrumentals is great. The album has multiple vibes going on, but the most prevalent atmospheres in the mix are that of old school hip-hop, high-energy multi-syllable focused rap, and even some soul-funk akin to what you would hear from Kendrick Lamar (To pimp a butterfly specifically).

Khingz is on-point with his vocal technique consistently throughout the album, aside from not being able to discern the lyrics to the odd bar here and there, the fast-paced style that is intermittently present throughout the individual tracks of the mix is occasionally to fast to follow. Aside from that one tiny issue, his projection, inflection, and delivery are relatively exceptional. A full track-list is available below as well as the YouTube link for the fifth track in the mix, Good Gangster.  Click the link here to be directed to Khingz’s Bandcamp page.
