Liam Graham | WhatTheHYPE EP Review
Innermission is a short and sweet four track long EP on Spotify under Chillaz channel. The exquisite beat production was brought to life Chemist, KING MICHAEL and 8Bars. Combining hot modern vocal styles with quality instrumentals, Intermission sets the bar for a good underground R&B EP.
Starting off with The Decision, the track sets the aforementioned R&B tune for the rest of the tape. Utilizing smooth vocals in the same style vein of Drake, Chillaz lays it down smooth with consistent flow and style through the next two tracks after.
The prize has the most relaxed beat out of the four with deep drum hits and bass complementing the wanting/seductive tone of the track. Much like Marvin’s room by Wayne, the track is heavily themed with reminiscence of a former lover. Good for a night alone with a few drinks.
Don’t be scared pulls a close second for most relaxed beat, though it is quite similar to the mood of The prize. The female singer complements the feeling of reminiscence between former lovers afraid to drop a wall and let each other back in. The back-and-forth between the woman and Chillaz drives the whole package of this track home nicely.
Anytime is the black sheep of this EP, but not in a bad sense. Sporting more of a pop type Weeknd feel, the sharp electric highs and lows and funk theme wrap the track up greatly. It changes the “Sit back, relax and think” mood to a “Get the fuck up and move or do something productive” mood.
Overall, Chillaz managed to express a variety of feelings with this quality EP. The tracks are well produced, easy on the ears without clipping and don’t overstay their welcome.
