Cheffie keeps up his consistent record of realness in his tracks with Situate.
The video was directed by BrownGuyMadeIt and runs just over three minutes. As usual, BrownGuy delivers crisp 4k footage of the scenery in a variety of shots and angles. The backdrop seems to be some sort of old baseball diamond or prison yard, and serves as a great backdrop with all of the graffiti and other symptoms of times passing visible for the audience to take in.
Cheffie is on point in regards to his lyrical work and vocal delivery. The song centers around the daily issues Cheffie has faced growing up as a black male in North America, and how he situates himself during those moments. The takeaway/moral of the song seems to be to stay about your business no matter what is going on, which is a definite issue for today’s disadvantaged youths.
Cheffie is a relative success story when it comes to the artists of Toronto’s nooks and crannies, and it is evident through this song that his success did not come easy or without problems. So to all those suffering and who feel like there is no easy way through what you’re going through, listen to Cheffie and see if you can takeaway anything in regards to ethic in trying times.
